-I'm not doctor but i study nutrition a lot and like to think i can reason whats really good for us humans. Chlorella is a no brainer. Here's my collection of random thoughts and finding from reading all the study's and expert research.- Brian H.
Chlorella is truly a gift from the gods for today's world. No other superfood can match its combination of big four attributes.
The chlorella growth factor.
Heavy metal, radiation and chemical detox.
Super high RNA/DNA content.
World's highest chlorophyll content, plus a whole lot more.
-1) The chlorella growth factor. This amazing algae multiplies by cell division 4x every 20 hours! It is programmed into its DNA to do so and it is the chlorella growth factor (CGF) that is responsible for this ability. CGF works synergistically and is far more than just the sum of its individual parts. CGF is the healthiest substance of the most potent food in the world, comprising approximately 3% of the chlorella cell. These rapid growth attributes seem to be literally passed on to young animals and children that eat chlorella and differently for adults. Studies on chlorella show it greatly increases the rate of tissue growth and repair, immune system enhancement, free radical scavenging and it speeds up the growth of friendly intestinal bacteria 4x average resulting in improved digestion and an increased ability to absorb nutrients. (CGF) is a complex of substances (including nucleic acids, amino acids, peptides, photo hormones, polysaccharides, RNA/DNA and beta glucans) found only in chlorella. In addition to the fact that chlorella contains the essential fatty acids and large amounts of b12 (about 40 times that of beef gram for gram), evidence points to (CGF) as key to chlorella's amazing ability to repair brain and nerve tissue.
-2) Heavy metal, radiation, and chemical detox. Chlorella's tough outer shell has the unique ability to attract, hold and remove heavy metals, radioactive particles and chemicals. In Fact it is so powerful a detox agent that when some people start taking chlorella they may feel nauseous and lethargic. This is a good thing, as better health is surely coming (be aware it could take 6 months to fully detox your body). Chlorella is one of the most studied foods and there are literally hundreds of studies mostly out of japan where chlorella is the most popular health product, even more than vitamin C. A Japanese study showed the range of chlorella's detox when 4-6 grams of chlorella taken before consuming alcohol helped prevent hangovers ! Another study showed 4 to 5 times the heavy metals in urine after taking chlorella. Cilantro is probably a better mobilizer of heavy metal's but they tend to loop in a reuptake pattern. Chlorella is both a mobilizer and 'cling on' remover (your personal bouncer, evicting the trouble makers:). South pole penguins show ddt, most fish have mercury, its coming from all sides and then theres radiation, but yet again numerous studies have shown chlorella (and spirulina) to protect and even heal from radiation.
-3) Super high RNA/DNA content. In fact laboratory results of our chlorella show 3% RNA 0.3% DNA which is one of the highest known concentrations and 10 times that of sardines. These "fountain of youth" substance's (especially combining with CGF and detox) are the material needed to help our body's own cellular replication and repair. Lack of adequate amounts of these substances coupled with a diminishing ability of the body to repair its RNA/DNA is thought to account for rapid aging through the last half of our lives (this area has spawned a whole anti-aging protocol). Chlorella with its superior RNA/DNA content can strengthen immunity by improving the activity of T-cells and B-cells which defend us from viruses and disease, however more is not necessarily better as too high of RNA/DNA content in those prone to gout could cause a problem due to the increase in uric acid levels. This is unlikely at the 4-8 grams of chlorella we recommend a day however those with a predisposition to such problems coupled with high organ meat / sardine intake and a sedentary lifestyle should be careful. Athletes can take more. If you want to take 10-12 grams one day, just take 2-4 the next, or zero and give it a break.
-4) World's highest chlorophyll content. Chlorophyll is a potent blood purifier with strong mental clarity and memory enhancing qualities. Chlorophyll is a plants blood as hemoglobin is ours the main difference is hemoglobin has a iron centre to chlorophyll's magnesium centre. Great for correcting ph levels chlorophyll also has anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties. Chlorophyll is also an effective deodorizer to reduce bad breath, fecal and body odor. It is a good stimulator of red blood cells to improve oxygen supply. This combined with the high iron in chlorella is very energy giving (try 4 grams in one pop if drowsy).
There is so much more in this synergistic powerhouse. Good chlorella is loaded with lutein and zeaxanthin to the tune of 40 mg per 10 grams! Eye health is of utmost importance and yet again this superfood extraordinaire delivers. Adults take about 4-8 grams a day, and its about a gram for every 2 years of age with kids who tend to love them like candy! (give them lots around vaccine time). The japanese have the most studies on chlorella and in 1 study showed a control group of school children grew almost an inch taller and had an 81% increase in iq scores taking just a few grams of chlorella a day for less than a year! So what about the experts?.....
"Used regularly Chlorella would assist in the repair of damaged genetic material in human cells, protecting our health and slowing down the aging process…When our RNA and DNA are in good repair and able to function most efficiently, our bodies get rid of toxins and avoid disease. Cells are able to repair themselves, and the energy level and vitality of the whole body is raised….Chlorella has 5 times the RNA and DNA of canned sardines.” – Dr Bernard Jensen, D.O., Ph.D......
"Chlorella has been touted as the perfect whole food. Aside from being a complete protein and containing all the B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E, and the major minerals (with zinc and iron in amounts large enough to be considered supplementary), it has been found to improve the immune system, improve digestion, detoxify the body, accelerate healing, protect against radiation, aid in the prevention of degenerative diseases, help in treatment of Candida albicans, relieve arthritis pain and, because of its nutritional content, aid in the success of numerous weight loss programs." - Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible
Unfortunately buyer beware may be the order of the day for chlorella (and spirulina) on the market as there is a vast difference in quality and sometimes at a detriment to your health! I'll tell you what i've learned. For starters growing these two algae's is not easy. There are several thousand different species (some poisonous) and keeping a clean chlorella or spirulina pond takes meticulous cleanliness, experience and attention to detail to keep your stock pure.
Next is bacteria problems where the easy route is to irradiate it to get that down. After that is because of chlorella's unique quality to attract heavy metals and chemicals these must not come in contact with those. The air and water supply for growing and rinsing must be clean. Then theres just the quality factor of what you have grown. At what level does a company cut human grade to animal grade? How effective are they at cracking the cell wall so you get the goodness of what's inside? What it boils down to, to produce high quality algae free from foreign species, radiation and heavy metals is experience and honor (company's who want to specialize in this field and be the best).
We have searched and searched and talked and talked with different companies and have seen and tested the products and we see who's getting what from where and what they are saying about what they are selling and it's a jungle out there! There IS poor quality chlorella out there but also note when comparison shopping there ISN'T really anything worth buying better than our chlorella and there is no "new" chlorella species with blue pigments etc. Watch out for sales "stories". My advice is with algae go safe and not cheap and probably not organic. Organic is not a strong vote of confidence with algae's.
Years ago the laws on what classified as organic algae's were changed and many of the oldest (and best) companies stuck with their tested and true methods to grow this difficult crop (difficult to grow pure and well that is). It's been my experience that most organic, besides the fact that the newer organic laws greatly increase the chances of bacteria overgrowth (leading to the easy fix of irradiating), are not only lower quality but often not as pure and clean.
In my journey for top quality chlorella and spirulina product purchases i didn't feel too confident with some companies as things changed that shouldn't have, leading me to believe the truth was movable. It reminded me of when i moved to the big city and was looking for a used car. I asked the approaching salesman "how many miles on it". He opened his hands up motioning and replied "how many you want?" There is no safe purchase, do your homework.
So where do I get my chlorella? From where the best chlorella comes from, Taiwan, and a grower whose stated mission is to be "The Best Chlorella Manufacturer in the World." Formed in 1964 this company has been churning out high quality cracked cell chlorella for many years, with stellar COA's they are considered the gold standard and with more awards and certificates then you can imagine these guys are a safe bet for pure high quality chlorella.
- My chlorella source is 1500 miles from japan and the winds blow west so no radiation is detected in my chlorella.
